Our opinion on this winery

The Binners have been winemakers since 1770 in the "pocket of Colmar" in Ammerschwhir. The 12-hectare domain is run as a family business. The production of 50, 000 bottles a year according to organic principles justifies a large number of staff. The Binners have always favoured quality over quantity The viticulture respects the environment with no pesticide but with grass cover. The vineyard is well-tended with natural phytosanitary products, a severe sorting of grapes, manual harvest to restrict the yields to 45hl/ha compared to 88hl authorized by the appellation. The winemaking is also very serious -no inputs, no sulphur except in specific cases- and light filtration, aging in 100 years old big oak barrels for a minimum of 11 months.--- In 2005, the Ecocert label has rewarded their efforts and today the vineyard benefits from this resulting good health. The Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Gris and Noir, Gewurtztraminer or Muscat benefit from exceptional exposure to sunlight on the slopes-with a gradient of up to 60%- facing south/south west for most of them. The vines thrive on the granitic soils of Hinterberg, Grand Cru Schlossberg, Wineck-Schlossberg and mainly Kaefferkopf. Thus the Binners can offer up to 15 wines (dry, late harvest, a selection of noble rot) plus a range of old vintages, without forgetting the famous ‘eau de vie’ from Alsace made from their own fruits and marc de vins. Searching for more precision, Christian fine tunes his wines in his new cellar, "bio climatic" and energetic built with sandstones and wood from the Vosges region: his own work of art.
