The story started just before she turned 16. Sicilian, shy and dreamy, Arianna used to go to exhibitions with Giusto her winegrower uncle, that’s when she fell in love with the wine sphere and its thousand delights and found her calling. Despite a few moments of doubt soon cleared up by her model uncle, she went to Milan to study Oenology after high school. Once graduated, she naturally went back to Sicilia motivated by a deep attachment to her roots. In 2004 she owns a 1ha plot of land in the south of the island near Vittoria, she is then 21. While disturbed by strict and interventionist talks from her Milanese teachers, Arianna met Nicolas Joly (Coulée de Serrant, The Monsieur Vin Biodynamie) and Frank Cornelissen and she developed her idea on wine in the spirit of soil respect, biodiversity using only indigenous yeast during vinification. A fighter, but sensible, she learns as she goes along by working on her Frappato and Nero d'Avola vines. After a first vintage vinified at friend’s, she installed her own equipment to be able to proceed with her production between 2005 et 2006. One thing leading to another, the vineyard grew, 8ha were planted and converted into organic.
Local red grape varieties can be found as well as two varieties of white : Zibibbo and Albanello, that Arianna masters wonderfully by bringing out their crispiness and freshness. The years 2008 and 2009 saw the birth of the SP68 vintages, concocted from young vines, that became best-sellers. Four years later Arianna built a new winery on the location of a ex-Azienda of 6,5 ha organically cultivated. Since then came an endless stream of praises. We must say that Arianna Occhipinti’s wines captivate the “tifosi” connoisseurs by releasing Sicilian vintages of rare purity where finesse and freshness clearly come out, way from local “jajas” standardisation. Concerned to produce live natural wines always intense, harmonious and sensitive, Arianna creates small natural bottles to match her image and fit with her life story. We just love that !
