To take over from a renowned father is never easy. Antoine Kreydenweiss, 13th generation of the domaine, threw himself body and soul into the venture in 2007 at the age of only 26. In front of his son’s strong involvement into the life of the domaine Marc told him to take it easy then he quickly handed him the reins with a last advice : “Take pleasure in what you do”. This is what Antoine tries his best to do on this 13,5 ha vineyard nested at the bottom of the mountains, halfway between Strasbourg and Colmar where biodynamic principles have been prevailing since 1989. Within a few years only, Antoine organised his vision of wine, always concerned to respect what was handed over to him but without letting this responsibility overpowering him.
He gives great significance to working the soils (with his horse Sam) and when time of maturity comes, he takes great care in reaching the best possible balance where his father sometimes tended to favor great vintages only. Then in the wine cellar, open to colleagues experience, he extended grape pressing time (8 to 12 hours). Inspired by his exchanges with Patrick Meyer, Antoine quickly goes for the elaboration of challenging wines, with complex aromatic development, free of sulphur. His Kastelberg cuvée for instance, is carried by incredible ampleness, a tannic and mineral saline taste that is a relish. It is probably a great nature wine of the Alsace today’s terroirs. It is produced by a wine grower of barely 30 years old, at the beginning of his career.
