The Domaine of Jean-François Debourg (in the Pierres Dorées du Beaujolais) (the Golden Stones of Beaujolais) has been there since 1850 and has been passed on from father to son. From around 40 ha initially, the vineyard covers today around 20 ha. Up to 2016, the grapes from carefully cultivated vines would either be brought to a cooperative or sold to local winegrowers (it is still the case today concerning 9 ha). Eventually, and depending on commercial development, Jean-François Debourg will decide whether to collect all or part of it and to sell some. New job in 2016 for Jean-François Debourg : He became a winegrower to his father’s great pride ! It is when bumping into François Ecot (nicknamed “Insolent” in Burgundy) that he had a revelation. François took him under his wing and taught him the bases of natural vinification. Since 2016, a main part of the vineyard is in the process of conversion to organic growing (BIO (concert)) and the vines will get certification, plot after plot from 2019 to 2021.
Jean-François is now a winegrower but he is also a builder, (he built his own winery and storage). Full of energy and ideas he is constantly on the go. He keeps discovering, experimenting, changing, he is constantly on the move and keeps his brain sharp. Several cuvées come out, most from fragmented plots with different soils. We especially appreciated the delicacy of Croix Haty ( 0,5 ha flinty plot), The Ronchons (on large 3 ha clay limestone plot), The Prenelles (1,5 ha) with that easy, crispy, fruity side… then come wines from the blend of several terroirs like the 2017 Num (blend of Croix Haty and Gamay Attitude terroirs). Then will come white wines such as Viogniers and in 2 to 3 years Chardonnay... Good things are happening towards Saint-Germain Nuelles..
