Our opinion on this winery

One rare domaine of the Bordeaux region working the way the elders did in order to offer wines of character, with unique fruity notes and a wonderful expression of the terroirs. The organic and biodynamic methods that are used by the Amoreau family are nothing more than those that the domain has used since its foundation in 1610. Of course the techniques have improved: today the control of temperatures is done through regulated automatic sensors. M. Amoreau – a strong and passionate character- is proud to have been able to preserve the ecosystem of his modest vineyard of Côtes de Franc.--- And today he is asking for the recognition of a Le Puy AOP status. Close to Saint Emilion, the chateau overlooks the Dordogne region. Here Merlot is the major grape variety-87%- and Cabernet Sauvignon-11%- reach sufficient maturity. As for white wines, Carmenere and Semillon offer a nice range of authentic and deep wines. The vines are 50 years old on average and planted at 5500 vines per hectare on a mix of clay, limestone and silica give yields of around 36hl/ha. This explains such nice concentration of the wines ! The healthy grapes have never been in contact with chemical fertilizers, herbicides nor synthesis insecticides. And for sure they are picked manually and de-stemmed.--- Fermentation starts without yeasting and and chaptalisation is totally banned at the Amoreau's. The wines are tasted every week and aged 2 years in barrels and large oak barrels of 3 to 5 wines that have been sterilized by steam. At last bottling is done with no filtering nor any fining and carried out in the middle of the old moon. At Chateau Le Puy the wines have a great aging potential and come in 3 styles: 2 reds and 1 white. The domain has created their old wine collection in 1917 in their own cellar and can also offer today some older vintages dating back to its foundation
