Our opinion on this winery

Since 1998, Jérôme Prévost has been producing Selosse-style Champagne with good vinosity and made from grapes grown in a parcel that is only 2 hectares, located in Gueux, near Reims. In the tradition of Anselme Selosse, Bertrand Gautherot (Vouette et Sorbée) he embodies this young generation of talented winegrowers. At the head of small estates, these “winemakers”-or should we rather say “creators” of haute couture Champagne- have opted for meticulous and above all manual work. Today Jérôme Prévost owns his own winery where the wines are vinified in small barrels. One grape variety , only one terroir and two cuvées: La Closerie Les Béguines and more recently the Closerie Fac-Similé rosé (3,000 bottles a year!) Jérôme Prévost’s Champagne is made from grapes of the same vintage and a batch number is to be found somewhere on the label. --- These wines tell a story: the story of the year-and no two years are the same- when the grapes were born, lived and all the experimental work that Jérôme put into the vintage. The ‘Closerie Les Béguines’ is full-bodied with nice acidity as a backbone. The “La Closerie Fac-Similé” rosé is a Champagne that is marked by mineral and spicy notes which impart a lot of character to the wine. However that may be this Champagne demonstrates that- when in capable hands- Pinot Meunier can also ranks among the best grape varieties!
