Our opinion on this winery

Taken over in 1992 by Giovanna Tiezzi (Heiress) and Stephano Borsa, her husband, the vineyard quickly chooses the strong orientation of producing great traditional, why not say natural Sangiovese. Efforts are major, precise, slow and passionate. Its is decided in 2009 that the compromise to save the Chianti Colline Senesi appellation is not worth the trouble. Minimise the use of sulphur and give back its nobility to that grape variety that expresses its terroir and minerality remains more important than the will of an administration unmoved by that kind of approach. Wines may lose their appellation but they do keep their identity, their biodiversity, their freedom and will have the IGT denomination. The Main Grape Variety of the domaine is indeed the Sangiovese though other representative varieties of the region are also there such as : Canaiolo, Cillegiolo, Trebbiano or else : Malvoisie… Biodiversity, according to Stefano is a strong and striking factor of the vines balance, providing better resistance. Unchanged nature for millenniums has provided real microclimate rich with plant and animal species.

Thank to their work, Stefano and Giovanna perpetuate and go on with respect for this environnement. Out of the 65ha of the property, 10 ha are dedicated to the vine, 8ha to olive trees and many plots are dedicated to rice and lots of chickpea varieties production. Here and elsewhere (along with the wine growers we support) natural work of the vine is the high point of the domaine. Only the family takes care of it: Stefano, Giovanna and the children. Vinification lays on the same low interventionism principle : no filtration, no clarification and minimum use of sulphur (free sulphur rarely above 8-9 mg/l). Productivity is around 35 hl/ha. Courageous, hard, laborious work. They can be proud !
