Laurence Escavi - Domaine Clos des Calades. At the age of 15, Laurence, then a parisian, already knows deep down that gastronomy and wine worlds will be closely related to her life. She started “l’Ecole Hôtelière Jean Drouant” in Paris and did wine courses with Jean-François Coutelou (natural wine grower), that will definitely seal her passion for this sublime beverage. At the age of 21 she went on to Wine University at Suze-La-Rousse for a Marketing and Management degree, then for a “viti-œnologie” degree in 2003. Laurence then goes on to Paris to do commercial development for various South of France vineyards and becomes friends with several wine growers we also love such as Jo Landron etc…). Anyhow, she is about to win her bet on vines. A first swing happened in 2005 with the birth of “Clos des Calades” (Langlade). She worked there during harvest and wine making process but went on with her other life. “Clos des Calades” was run by friends and by her husband. The total swing happened in 2012 when she had the opportunity to take over from her friends, encouraged by her husband Jean-Paul Cases. Since 2013, Laurence has been on all fronts showing strong determination and unlimited courage : - Healthy wine growing, eradication of chemical weedkillers (no insecticide whatsoever...). She applied for “Bio Certification” in 2015 to value her work. - Wine making process with no input, with indigenous yeast, little sulfite, no specific maturing process.

[span size="6"] - A will to put forward freshness, fruit and finesse. - Thanks to the support of the Region and on an agroforestry principle, 5 ha were cleared in 2014, plots were delimited, traditional « clapas » stone walls were kept as well as specific tree varieties such as oak trees, arbutus, olive trees to provide a large biodiversity and help fight against destructive species in a natural way. - Total transformation of the vineyard identity. Keeping her marketing training in mind Laurence Escavi goes on working her communication and networking. She is gradually succeeding making her own way in this small world of natural wines. It is definitely the beginning of a great adventure for Laurence and her “Clos de Calades”.
