Olivier Lejeune from Clos des Plantes is settled in Anjou in the heart of Layon. He is a young winemaker hatched by the famous Mark Angeli (Ferme de la Sansonnière) and he works now on beautiful parcels on Montbenault near Richard Leroy.
After 10 years as an employee in South East Asia, Olivier changed his life to do a complete training in wine at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. After graduating, he started working in a famous New Zealand estate, Felton Road. Felton Road is located in the center of Otago, New Zealand, the southernmost wine region in the world. Since its first vintage in 1997, Felton Road has earned a formidable reputation around the world with the praise of great critics of wine. Cultivated biodynamically with minimal intervention in the cellar, the wines capture the essence of the sites and express their unique personality.
Olivier Lejeune returned to France in March 2017 (with wife and child!) with the ambition to take back vines. The meeting with Mark Angeli was a trigger and also a great opportunity to learn how to make natural wines, without sulfite, in a soil as rich as Anjou.
After visiting several vineyards, Olivier was able to take up parcels ideally located on the hill of Montbenault, on the edge of the plot of Richard Leroy. It is also Richard who testifies to the colossal work that Olivier Lejeune undertook to give back life to vineyards that were almost fallow. 1 year of pick, manual weeding, pulling ... but the result is there.
The vines are full of life and the first cuvée Chenin is a success, proof of a winemaker who masters his art.
An endearing vigneron to follow closely!
