What a career path. At first, Nicolas Réau made the choice of a music and piano course but met difficulties breaking through despite his hard work. Then came questioning time about a possible career change. That is when Nicolas heard praises for a viticultural training course leading to a “BTS” degree. The recall of cabernet franc served by his grandfather at lunch breaks plunged him back into that world. It came as a revelation. --- In order to refine his inclinations and wishes, he worked for a few domaines then made his choice. He decided to go for organic farming and to let nature take its course. No to machinery brutality at harvest, but a great Yes to human hands. No chemicals. No sulphur in reds and only a tiny bit in whites. Give way to authenticity and terroir. You will find Nicolas Réau in the north of the Deux-Sèvres department, not far from Thouars and 30 minutes south of Saumur. An over 7 hectare vineyard located at the geological crossroads of the Armorican, Central and Parisian Basins mountain ranges. One of the plots is actually situated on a rift. A diversified and complex soil, revealed in the bottles by peppery and floral flavors. --- With tannins too, thank to grapes harvested before they reach over ripeness state and thank to a long maceration process, sometimes in buried georgian amphoras. The guy Nicolas works really well and the result proves it. His Anjou appellation wines show a rare typicity from there and from nowhere else. The cabernets francs are precise, with generous flavours and the chenin maries power and uprightness. No doubt, here are natural wines to classify among first grade Vins de Loire. This is great stuff.
