Our opinion on this winery

Alexandre Bain is not son of a winegrower but he developed an early passion for the vine in his family farm. At the age of 18 he found out about the Nature Current at the enterprising Beaune wine education college and was immediately won over. «When I tasted those wines, I was overwhelmed. Before that, I did not understand much about wine tasting, I would taste 10 different wines in a row and would feel no difference. In fact, the problem wasn’t me, but them, with their beverages all alike and containing sulfites and yeast.» After several years of travel and on-job-training, at Olivier Cousin’s for instance, where he found out how to work the vine with a horse, he then set up his own vineyard in 2007 on Pouilly-Fumé appellation. A 5 ha vineyard for a start that he pampers straight away by going for organic and biodynamic farming with the help of his horse (Phénomène). He makes the most of all what nature gives him to look after his land, his vines and the men who work them. No yeast, no chaptalisation or filtration.

He works with the lunar calendar. As many before him, he follows his juice from grape to wine. Alexandre today manages 11 ha and offers 3 cuvées : The 'Pierre Précieuse' and 'Spring' cuvées made out of grapes grown on clay soil (8ha) with little or no arable soil but very stony soil instead. It gives great smoothness, a bright side according to Mister Bain. And the 'Mademoiselle M' cuvée from another type of clay soil : the famous Kimméridgien (marl with small oyster shell sediment (or limestone), from 140 millions years ago). The soil is heavy and more difficult to work. “This specificity though gives the wine more structure, length and delicacy”. Mature Sauvignons, rich and unctuous whose minerality will express with age.
