Alexandre Durand is the son of winegrowers from Bergerac, but it is in the Faugères area that he decided to set himself up in 2018 by creating the Pèira Levada domain. In effect, after having had to give up taking over from his father, Alexandre continued his quest to produce excellent natural wines. From university to experience on the ground, he travelled around the vineyards of France and acquired solid skills.
It was in 2010, during a season picking grapes at the Château Tour des Gendres in his native Dordogne, that he met Sybil Baldassare (Graine Sauvage domain). After going to Italy, this young couple settled down in 2014 near Faugères to take a job as a farm manager. Sybil created her own domain the following year. As for Alexandre, he started out in 2018 and created the domain Pèira Levada. A domain of 4 and a half ha in AOP Faugères, split into small parcels of vines, all of them around the commune of Laurens, on different types of soils made up of shale, marble and limestone. The vineyard is run according to the principles of biodynamic and organic agriculture, all of the operations carried out on the vine favour maintaining the vitality of the soils, with the greatest respect for the living, using only substances of mineral or vegetal origin to protect the vines and animal manure to feed them. The grapes, gathered by hand in crates, are destemmed and vatted by gravity, then vinified with their native flora, with no oenological ingredient or sulphite being used. You’ve got it, this is pure juice!
