In 2002 the estate was 1,2 hectares, now it has grown to reach 4 hectares. Franck works on his own , except at harvest time and for soil work especially on steep slopes with a gradient of 60%. The domaine is planted of Syrah in 3 vineyards and the soils is granitic. 1,4ha at the place known as "Chaillot" with vines dating from the end of 19th century. 0,4ha at the place known as "Mazards" with vines dating from 1961 1,7ha at the place known as Legre" with younger vines of 2005. Progressively Franck Balthazar reworks on the soils with mentors like Juge, Clape, or Voge especially Thierry Allemand, The winemaker of Cornas. Since 2006 the totality of his vines have been treated only with sulphur powder and copper. ---Today the wines are organic and in the cellar, winemaking tends to become more and more natural: whole bunch harvest and wild yeasts, long and soft maceration from 13 to 14 days, aging in large oak barrels for a minimum of 5 years , with the aim of reflecting the terroir and the vintage without too oaky notes. Bottling with no filtration, no fining ,with minimal doses of sulphur for stabilization. At last today Franck offers a blend without any added sulphur. It’s vibrant and sensitive, probably the result of all these years’ hard work, hats off to him !
