Jean David is one of those wine growers with solid hands, tanned face, marked by wind and work at the vine. The face of a man who has endured time and lived well. Keen reader of Kerouac, when young he chose to travel towards Egypt and unknown land. That experience away from Séguret contributed to structure him, open his mind and make him the open minded spirit he is today. In the mid-eighties, he returned to his village situated a few kilometers from Vaison-la-Romaine. His father, previously manager of the local cooperative did not wait for his son’s return to sell part of the family land. Jean David then forged his knowledge as a farm tenant for his aunt’s vines. He immediately went for Organic farming and got the label in 1987. A philosophy Marcel Richaud will follow, motivated by the idea of walking on the guide Jean David footsteps. Thirty years later, the 17 ha vineyard has not lost any of its original identity. The understanding of those beautiful terroirs of the Ouvèze plains and the Montmirail “Massif des Dentelles” remains a priority. Diversified terroirs, deep soil from sandy-limestone to highly calcareous soil, worked with passionate and caring love.
With Jean, most work is done by hand. There is no rule and each vintage is different, it is up to the winegrower to adapt to every year conditions to produce quality wine. Neither weed killer or chemical fertilizer or synthetic product… but great pleasure in plant watching as well as all living being around! Watch word for cellar work : vigilance, rigour, thought, decision, patience and always passion as a goal. Passion with capital P ! Jean David is constantly in search, always looking for roundness and power in his cuvée. In love with Grenache old vines, he reveals the magic of this great variety from the south in his silky and always intensely fragrant wines. A whole production to the guy’s image : with no concession whatsoever, and no other ambition than pass on pleasure. Pleasure we taste with enthusiasm and we would like to share with you.
