Our opinion on this winery

This is a young domain born in 2006. Their first vintage is 2007. Grégoire Rousseau was not born into a family of winegrowers but he studied hard… Right from the beginning this little 5-hectare domain- planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc- focused on the respect for nature, the soils and the concept of Terroir. Needless to say Grégoire is constantly in search of optimal grape maturity. And the domain distinguishes itself by wines matured in oak barrels and even new oak. If you visit our website now and then you have probably noticed that wines matured in barrels are not exactly our thing… but this domain is the exception which proves the rule. The wines are so well balanced and the winegrower has such a nice touch !

The grape varieties that are grown have a reputation for not being that easy and yet the wines are elegant and delicate. Something to do with the geographic position of the domain ? Indeed, the Domaine Coquelicot is located to the western border of the Bergerac appellation and as a consequence is closer to Lussac and Puisseguin than it is to the town of Bergerac. To sum up, Grégoire pays strong attention to detail and his wines have a perfect balance between the concept or terroirs, varietals and maturing. And last but not least the wines have great drinkability which is an issue we feel very strongly about. Hats off and thank you Grégoire! [http://www.domaine-coquelicot.fr]
