Attached to the vine since the XVth century, the “Château” La Colombière alone is the symbol of part of Fronton local history. Church property until the French Revolution, the domaine passed through the hands of the Chabanon family whose one of the members was once mayor of Villaudric. A period when the “Château” was a pioneer in bottling what was then called “Côtes-du-Frontonnais”, situated halfway between Montauban and Toulouse. The vineyard was bought by baron François de Driesen in 1984. Then, at the end of the nineties, came the time for his daughter to join the venture. First in charge of marketing the wine, she gradually trained to become a winegrower. Enthusiastic and determined she took over the domaine in 2006 with her husband Philippe Cauvin. Their first main decision was to start a conversion of the vine towards organic farming and biodynamics.
Necessary conditions to stop taste banalization and bring precious added value for the Fronton appellation recognition, too often criticised. A global vision allowing “Château La Colombière” to grow their favourite and emblematic wine variety, the « Négrette » in the most beautiful way, not forgetting the indigenous wine variety coming from Savagnin grape « the Bouysselet », a grape variety that almost disappeared a few years ago… that was without counting on the Cauvin couple’s passion and eagerness for purity and enhancement of the terroir ! On the 17 hectares, can also be found Syrah, Cabernet franc, Gamay and Sauvignon for cuvées combining balance, subtlety and tactile surprise.
